Our dedication to flood resilience is reflected in our investment in cutting-edge research. For example, we actively support, and fund PhD research focused on rural flood resilience. Why? Because we believe that the future of flood risk management depends on understanding the vulnerabilities and strengths of every community—urban or rural—and developing solutions that are sustainable and equitable for all.

We also lead our own research into flood risk management practices. By engaging with key stakeholders—ranging from the Environment Agency and Lead Local Flood Authorities to Non-Governmental Organisations and the public, we're advocating for real, tangible changes. Our goal is to promote fairness and transparency in flood risk management, ensuring that every voice is heard and that flood support reaches those who need them most.

Flood resilience isn't just a local issue - it's a global one. That’s why we continually assess international disaster resilience frameworks, identifying areas for improvement to better protect vulnerable communities. Recently, we contributed a chapter to the Research Handbook on Flood Risk Management, where we reviewed global frameworks and proposed practical enhancements to bolster resilience on a global scale.
